Mexican women will bring you joy like no other, but understanding them is something you need to put an effort into. Why is that? One of the factors is the differences of culture thus creating cultural barriers.

What are cultural barriers? These are challenges to cross-cultural communication within locals and tourists. This happens due to an absence of cultural awareness, knowledge, and communication. Cultural barriers take many forms, and they range from the differences in religious beliefs to unfamiliar languages.

It’s important to avoid or overcome any kind of barrier for any successful and effective communication especially in the context of cross-cultures to avoid tension.

The following are the points you need to know on how to overcome cultural barriers with Mexican women:

  1. Use mutual language and signs.
  2. Enunciate your words properly and slowly. We are not running a race. Split your sentences into short and easy to understand segments. Be direct and use clear and easy language to overcome it.

You might even utilize visual methods because humans are highly visual creatures. This is not a culture-specific fact and this is often the explanation why it can be proven useful in overcoming obstacles.

  3. Keep it simple with a sense of humor.
  4. One of the main reasons why we don’t understand each other is because of cross cultural communication barriers. Too many of us over-complicate things in life. This can lead to paralysis through analysis. Keep things simplified so that these women can understand you better.

Think of the occasional social faux pas as something to laugh off, not something to be ashamed of. Humor is the only human trait that has universal appeal. When correctly used, and at the correct time, it also has the capacity to transcend language, culture, and other perceived sources of separation.

  5. Ask polite questions.
  6. Don’t be afraid to voice your curiosity. When unsure, it’s better to ask questions early than to offend them later on. There’s a better chance that they’re going to be delighted that you’re showing interest in their way of life. Asking questions can also function as an ice breaker and if you’re honest about it, they’ll appreciate you and be able to trust you faster.

  7. Pay attention to body language.
  8. There is another way to convey messages other than verbal communication and this is our body language or visual communication. Sometimes, people communicate using body language and physical gestures. It provides meaning and justification for communication. Your ability to understand and interpret body language and gestures can help you to pick up on unspoken issues.

  9. Be professional and open minded.
  10. The thing about socio-cultural barriers and why it’s difficult to overcome is because of our close mindedness. First and foremost, you need to check your own attitude towards different cultures and take a look at things from a different perspective.

You have to get to know them, their backgrounds and origins and how they communicate in their part of the world. You need to open up to a whole new possibility and make yourself grow. Having an open mind about how things are done elsewhere is very important.

  11. Be humble.
  12. The majority of the population places value on external accomplishments and appearance. By being humble, we embrace our humanity and that we are ready to understand and show empathy.

By being humble, we are also able to practice mindfulness and self-compassion. Frankly, we can’t develop humility without them.

Saying thank you when we receive something, whether material things or not. A simple gratitude is our hallmark of being humble.

  13. Avoid stereotypes.
  14. Resist the urge to criticize their beliefs or customs, keep your judgmental opinions to yourself. Keep in mind that your own beliefs, attitudes, and mannerisms could appear just as odd to someone from a different culture.

This can become an excellent opportunity to have a foundation built on the understanding and appreciation of various cultures because when it involves stereotyping, they’ll start thinking about discrimination and harassment issues. Remember that there are many cultural differences that take stereotyping over the line to discrimination.

  15. Share knowledge.
  16. Studies show that knowledge sharing and collective contribution produce creative outcomes. Gaining knowledge from different cultural backgrounds and experiences stimulates cultural inclusion and results in innovation. Exchanging ideas or things unique to your culture can serve as pleasantry and help create a mutual understanding.

  17. Cultural difference awareness.
  18. Paint an even bigger picture and be as informed as they are. Do your research locally, even watching movies can help. Through this sort of process, you start building bridges between your culture and less familiar ones. Strive to create a hospitable atmosphere where they can feel welcome to open up about how they view the world.

  19. Be courteous and respectful.
  20. Start with pleasantries and small talk. This is a basic courtesy upon meeting someone new. Ask them about the weather, their culture, and their beliefs. You’re not necessarily required to know everything there is to know.

What’s important is you’re making an effort to create a bridge between you. Stay composed even in unpleasant situations. It’s important to remember that even if you’re doing everything right, you still can’t control everything.

Climb Over The Wall

Most people find it difficult to open up to people with a different cultural background. They have the tendency to get away and turn a blind eye and stick to what’s familiar and convenient for them. On the contrary, coming out of your comfort zone is one of the steps to overcoming cultural barriers.

We, as humans, have unconscious bias in our brain by making quick judgments and assessments of people and situations without us realizing.

The only way to accommodate cultural differences is to recognize it. We need to nurture the ideas of understanding, openness, and embracing our differences. Keep in mind that this is the starting point and use it to bridge the gaps.

If we wish to understand a person, we have to try putting ourselves in their shoes. We must recognize that whatever the future may hold, countries and people differ in their approach to life and their ways of living and thinking. That is one necessity if you wish to break cultural barriers with Mexican women.
